Small Animal Care Specialist
Equuvation is seeking a kind, dependable, and detail-oriented individual to fill our SMALL ANIMAL CARE SPECIALIST role. This part-time gig includes caring for our smaller therapy animals—goats, cats, rabbits, chickens, and ducks—who are not only adorable and full of personality, but who are also important partners in our nonprofit’s work. Shifts are well-structured, checklists are abundant, and the view is to die for!
The Nitty-Gritty:
Location(s): Equuvation at Rocky Creek {Statesville address in North Iredell—easy off I-77}
Type of role: Part Time
Schedule: To be determined; 4-20 hours per week available
Compensation: All of our part-time hourly roles have a starting rate ($15/hour) that increases by at least 10% once the team member is independent from training and no longer needs an additional team member alongside for support. Additional increases with positive performance reviews (90-day mark and annually). Bonuses for working holiday shifts.
What You’ll Do:
The feeding, cleaning, and care for all sweet creatures and their habitats in the SMALL ANIMAL ZONES (cats, rabbits, hens, ducks, goats).
Animal Management tasks as needed including: meal prep as needed, recording inventory, preparing hay sources, organizing supplies, minor first-aid, basic repairs, etc.
Operate and care for equipment (UTVs, golf carts, tractors, etc.) safely and confidently (don’t worry, we will train you!)
Work independently to complete tasks efficiently — without cutting corners!
Communicate clearly with the team.
Assist with Equuvation’s special events as indicated by our annual calendar (2-3 events each year are mandatory for the entire team; others optional).
What You Bring:
A love of caring for animals under all circumstances and during all weather.
A strong work ethic and the ability to stay on task without constant supervision.
A knack for balancing speed and efficiency with high-quality results.
The willingness to get muddy, dusty, sweaty, cold, hot, and everything in between.
Ability to lift 50lbs (a standard bag of grain or a full muck tub).
Excellent communication skills.
Reliability, positivity, and readiness for all shifts at the scheduled start time.
A valid drivers license and dependable transportation.
Compliance with all policies and guidelines set forth by the Employee Manual.
Large Animal Care Specialist
Equuvation is seeking a kind, dependable, and detail-oriented individual to fill our LARGE ANIMAL CARE SPECIALIST role. This part-time gig includes caring for our larger therapy animals—donkeys and horses—who are not only adorable and full of personality, but who are also important partners in our nonprofit’s work. This part-time gig includes caring for our animals’ outdoor spaces and keeping them clean, safe, and looking their best! 💩Yes, you read that right—where are our people who think mucking is great therapy?

Volunteer Coordinator
Equuvation is seeking a kind, dependable, detail-oriented and extroverted individual to fill our VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR role. This part-time HYBRID gig plays a key role in fostering and managing the community of volunteers whose time, energy, and compassion help Equuvation deliver its programs and services.
The Nitty-Gritty:
Location(s): HYBRID for partial remote work and partial on-site work at Equuvation {Statesville address in North Iredell—easy off I-77}.
Type of role: Part Time
Schedule: To be determined. Some specific dates are REQUIRED (i.e. Volunteer Trainings and Special Events). These dates will be discussed during an interview.
Compensation: All of our part-time hourly roles have a starting rate ($15/hour) that increases by at least 10% once the team member is independent from training and no longer needs an additional team member alongside for support. Additional increases with positive performance reviews (90-day mark and annually).
What You’ll Do:
Screen, onboard, and orient volunteers: conduct background checks (for adults working with clients), review policies (including animal welfare, facility safety, COVID-19, etc.), and ensure volunteers understand their responsibilities and our values.
Be present for and lead all Volunteer Trainings and Orientations (schedule set for the year well in advance—approx 6 dates per calendar year.)
Be present for and lead all Educational Partner and Corporate Team Volunteer Workdays (Thursdays and Fridays in most cases, about 12-24 dates per calendar year.)
Coordinate general/weekly volunteer scheduling, assignment matching (based on interests, availability, skill level), and communication — ensuring coverage for programs, barn/animal care, events, and ongoing maintenance.
Work closely with program staff & animal care team to align volunteer roles with program needs, safety protocols, and equine welfare standards.
Maintain accurate volunteer records: contact info, hours served, roles, training, certifications, background check status.
Develop and implement volunteer appreciation and recognition initiatives (e.g. thank-you, events, acknowledgement of contributions), helping to build community and retain volunteers.
Support outreach and community engagement: promote volunteer opportunities to the public, coordinate group volunteers (families, schools, youth groups), and represent Equuvation in community/partnership volunteer recruitment efforts.
Help enforce and support Equuvation’s values and mission: compassion, inclusion, collaboration, confidentiality, and ethical treatment of animals — making sure volunteers understand and uphold those standards.
Assist with and schedule/manage/train volunteers for Equuvation’s special events as indicated by our annual calendar (2-3 events each year are mandatory for the entire team; others optional).
What You Bring:
A friendly, extrovert or ambivert personality who loves working with kids, teens, and adults!
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational/paperwork skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, schedules, and volunteers of varying ages and backgrounds; reliability and good judgment are essential.
Understanding (or willingness to learn) of safety protocols, animal welfare standards, confidentiality when working with vulnerable clients, and volunteer supervision best practices.
A love of nature and being outside under all circumstances and during all weather.

Volunteers
The generosity of volunteers allows us to elevate the care of our facility and animals; and implement, create and grow our educational and therapeutic programs. We welcome individuals and groups who are interested in volunteering weekly/ongoing or one-time.
VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES
Volunteers should be at least 13 years of age, unless working with a larger group {family, scouts, school, etc.}
Most volunteer opportunities are during normal business hours, Monday through Saturday.
Volunteering involves physical activity; if you have any concerns or restrictions on the physical activity you are able to do, please contact us. We have a job for everyone!
Previous experience with animals is not required.
A background check will be conducted on all volunteers, ages 18 and over, if working with clients.
All barn and facility rules must be adhered to, including Covid-19 screening and policies.
