Weather + Cancellation Policies

WEATHER POLICY

The decision to cancel sessions takes into account the safety and well-being of the clients, horses/animals and staff at all times. As it relates to temperature, we follow the guidelines for “RealFeel” weather conditions. For example: temperature + humidity {spring/summer} and temperature + wind chill {fall/winter}. The conditions at the farm may be very different than downtown Statesville due to our location and topography.

Sessions may be canceled or adjusted on a case-by-case/hourly basis at the discretion of the farm or individual instructor/therapist when any of the following conditions are present at the time of your session:

  • RealFeel is less than 38 {fall/winter} or more than 92 {spring/summer}

  • More than a 50% chance of severe weather (thunder storms, warnings/watches)

  • If lightening is 10 miles or less away (even if farm has no precipitation at that time)

  • Heavy precipitation (more than 1” of rain in a short period of time; or snow and ice)

  • Steady winds over 18mph and/or gusts over 22mph; any instance of NOAA Wind Advisory

  • A note about The Discovery Trail: The trail will be closed in the event of the conditions listed above. Even if the forecast is clear on the day you are scheduled to visit or have sessions, the trail may be closed for 24-48 hours following heavy precipitation to maintain the safety of guests and integrity of the grounds. This includes use of trail stations for regular therapy sessions.

  • *Reminder: there are NO Therapeutic Horsemanship, Equine-assisted Learning or Discovery Trail sessions during the months of December and January.

Equuvation’s instructors, therapists and educators may choose to adjust sessions to groundwork, horsemanship education, indoor education or talk therapy in the event of weather, instead of canceling. Concurrently, we know that some of our participants thrive on keeping to a set of structured activities and coming to Equuvation, but not riding or working with the horses/animals may be difficult for them. If you are concerned about this possibility, please talk with your instructor, therapist or educator to make a plan. Make-up lessons cannot be scheduled in lieu of ground lessons. Your instructor, therapist or the staff will email, text or call the number that has been designated to inform you of session cancellations directly. You may also contact your instructor or therapist if you have questions. You will not be charged for sessions canceled by Equuvation or it’s affiliates.

  • No-shows will be charged 100% of the session fee.
